There’s been a dip in temperature this week to compliment the smokey scent in the air, reminding us all that winter is coming! We mark this by bringing out ‘the big coat’, turning up the heating and in our house there’s always an extra blanket lying around, because I’m always colder than everyone else.
For me this time of year is a bit manic, Christmas prep, if not underway is now an underlying tension, washing takes longer to dry, and everything seems a little more disorganised. There’s little we can do about these things, but what we can do is take control of the space around us, to ensure that it is at least as peaceful as it can be. Close the door to the room with the washing hanging up, fold the blankets and make a folder or envelope for the lists. Looks around you and hopefully your cosy surroundings will make you calm and enthusiastic for the end of the year.
If like me this is your favourite time of year, you may feel that extra burst of enthusiasm, the fire in your belly to get stuff done, get organised, refresh your decor and enjoy yourself whilst doing it!!
Often soft furnishings can change the look of a room, but you have to have quite a neutral starting point to be able to change up the theming.

- Textured and 3D papers, there’s so much more than brickwork papers now (which is still super good)
- Coloured frames, black and dark grey along with cotswold green are massive for fences, window frames and exterior doors, they completely change the look of a property.
- Textures in throws and cushions change a room to suit the season.
- Pastel colours on walls are easily paired with changing themes if you want to make more of a statement than a white wash.
