I’d like to think I could turn my hand to most things, but when I watch the team at ardent work I realise that what comes as second nature to them, would take me at least three times as long, with not even a quarter of the standard.
People often post on social media that they are looking for someone who can –
- Hang a door
- Tile a bathroom
- Paint the hall
- And make a curtain…..
Why would anyone assume one person can do all of that to a professional standard? That’s 4 different trades and area of expertise. You probably could get someone who can do all of the above, but will they do it well? Will they come back if something is not quite right? What qualifications will they have?
When employing anyone to work in your property there are a few things you should check first.
- Are they qualified?
- Do they have a website/social media?
- Do they have recommendations?
- Do they have the right tools?
- Do they advertise anywhere?
All of these things are the mark of a professional, without someone having them how do we know if they are the right person for your job? Or if they are capable of carrying it out better than you? The worst feeling in the world is when you hand over your money to someone thinking ‘I could have done better myself’.
It may feel a little uncomfortable asking for recommendations or what qualifications someone has, but if you can’t seem to find that out before you employ a trade, it may mean they aren’t qualified to undertake the work at all. You want to entrust your property to a trade that shouts from the rooftops about great affiliations, great employees and great results!
