When we first purchased our home David would often say I could have any colours I wanted, as long as they were magnolia or white. A painters joke that lasted a while in our house, in fact we’ve only just gotten rid of the last of it!

Colour placement.
It’s often not the colour that is too strong, but maybe where it is used throughout your space. Be mindful of what colours you pick for each room….
Purple.
Seen as a Royal, ambitious and spiritual colour, in the right shade purple can be used in most rooms. Deeper shades may be better placed in an office, dining room or bedroom. Whereas lighter shades of lilac and violet are perfect in the bedroom, living room or bathroom.
Blue / turquoise.
Calming, creative and efficient these colours can be suited to almost all areas. Creating a dramatic effect or bright clean look to any office or hallway.
Green.

B&Q
Greens have been included in colours of the year since 2020. Designers and manufacturers possibly had the foresight to see that we’d need it’s healing, balanced and calming effects. Green is a colour that can create a flow through the home or office, all the way out to the nature surrounding us. A versatile colour that matches well with most others.
Red / Black.
If you want to bring the drama, show your confidence and create a luxurious surrounding whilst still being playful, these colours bring it all to the table. Red and or black need an element of confidence to pull off. Black paired with green in an office, or pink in a bedroom creates a beautiful contrast. Red in a kitchen doesn’t have to be on the walls. Kitchen accessories have always been popular in red, surely this speaks volumes for the colour?!
Yellow / Pink.
Often seen as feminine colours, both yellow and pink promote optimism, playfulness and creativity. Regularly used in children’s bedrooms, utilising different shades and paring with contrasting colours. These colours appear in offices, kitchens, hallways and big open spaces. Paired with browns, greys and blacks you can have drama in abundance with these more innocent colours.
Orange/ Brown.
Earthy, modest, reliable and stable, we can see why these colours are often at home in a bathroom or dining room. In their darker shades they are rich and comforting colours, and in their lighter shades become almost Mediterranean and warming in a kitchen or bathroom. We’re getting away from the thoughts of the 1970’s with these colours. Realising they are versatile and playful too.
Grey / White.
White and grey have earned their place as a main colour/background in most areas. Classic staples for any property both white and grey can look cool, clean and modern. As well as this they pair well with almost any other colour, making subtle differences or stark contrasts. I like the stark, but if you aren’t as confident, you can easily change up a room by changing your accessories, this can have as good an effect without a major overhaul.
