In the ardent family celebrating birthdays and milestones is a big deal! We all love a cake, a banner some bunting and of course balloons!!! Although it wasn’t until I met David that I realised how important it is to make sure you don’t ruin your every day decoration for a shorter lived event……

Big Birthday
Whilst our Bessie’s were off celebrating a milestone birthday in the sun, we were allowed to go for broke back at home celebrating an amazing woman who you’d never believe was 50! We arrived and the ‘we’ went out of the window 😂
I was allowed a say in which decorations would go where, but David was absolutely in charge of putting them in place.

Pins.
Some decorations are too heavy for blu tak or sellotape and there’s nothing else for it but to use a pin. David’s tip for this was to go as near a light fitting/spot light as possible, this means that the pin holes will not be seen, as the shadow of the light itself will disguise it.

Blu Tak.
Both Blu and white tak can work well to adhere to walls and ceilings, however they will often leave a grease mark that won’t go away, even when decorated. It will take sanding and stain block to truly never see those marks again. David discovered some of these marks from past decorations so we simply put the decorations in the same place, making sure we weren’t adding more marks (tbh I didn’t see them in the first place, it took the decorators eye to point them out). Again shadowed areas are good for blu tak, below coving, or again light fittings will save the look of your walls and ceilings.

Sellotape.
We generally don’t use this at all. You will find it just doesn’t stick to new paints, put in the worst case scenario I can’t strip paint/paper off with it if you do use it.

Helium.
Balloons are great for transforming a room! Floating from a weight means there’s no needs to adhere to a surface, or a newer trend is to have the balloons free floating, they will decorate the ceiling without leaving any marks at all, but with great effect!

As much as a good decorator will be precious about their work, we also understand they have to be used for living and working purposes, so don’t scrimp on the occasion decorations, they can really brighten up an event, and a mood!
