Just keep swimming

This years privilege.

Working from home for me is a blessing. I know this year people have had to do this unplanned, and many are struggling, but after 7 years of barely being home, the novelty hasn’t worn off on me. The way the world is at the moment being able to work at all is a privilege. Some ‘old normality’ in our ‘new normal’.

Home office.

I took a call on Tuesday morning from a lady who was looking for a painter to do her kitchen, this week! When I explained we are now into next years diary she couldn’t disguise the anguish in her voice. The truth was she’d been let down by another painter, one who was supposed to start on Monday but had called off ill. She explained that to her annoyance her friend lived near him and could see he was still out during his working hours. She told me much more, about the preparation she had done to get the room ready, clearing her kitchen and packing everything away, washing walls down and setting up a microwave and kettle in another room, to do them for this week. How late she had stayed up doing this and the annual leave she had taken to accommodate him. Even though I couldn’t get her job done, I hope I gave her some relief by listening, understanding her frustrations and  being an understanding eat to listen.

Customers are everything.

Without our customers we have no business! Taking time to build relationships with builders, letting agents and every private customer takes time. Unpaid time, but it’s worth it for everyone. Understanding one another, especially this year, is what can make or break a day. We don’t want to let anyone down, so David is juggling the management side of his role whilst being on the tools to get jobs done! Every day hoping no one in our team has to isolate. Its stressful, but worth it for the standard of service we strive to deliver.

At their mercy.

No holidays, no weekends away or even nights out. Often working from home or not being able to work at all! We’re all looking around our four walls and planning how to make it a better place to be. Please don’t rush into anything. If ANY trade can start tomorrow you have to question why they don’t have a list? The construction industry is as busy as it has ever been at the moment, so take your time, wait if you have to.

If we’ve learned anything this year it’s how to wait it out, and that’s what we all need to do for the best outcome.

We at Ardent will always be honest with our customers, truthful with timelines and pricing, and will do our best to keep you happy and healthy in your space.
