Lighting is Everything!

October has certainly come along with possibly unexpected crisp mornings and bright sunshine. Every change in season brings with it a change in lighting, making for cosy nights and darker mornings. Although the sun is bright, as are the lights we turn on in the evenings! In our house this means light reaches corners that it hasn’t for a few months, often highlighting new scuff marks or discolouring gloss work (of course you’d never find dust, cobwebs or little piles of dog hair…)

It’s at these times of the year that our waiting lists at Ardent always increase. The marks, discolourations and imperfections are more apparent when the weather changes and many of us start spending more time indoors, looking for cosy comforts and relaxing hideaways.

If comfort is your first port of call we turn towards more muted tones and textures, layering up on linens and velvets in colours of blush, sage and creams. These themes can be extended to your walls with textured wall hangings and matt paints for a cosier feel. When looking at paints you’ll quickly realise how many there are on the market. Remember to ask your decorator what they prefer to work with, they are the experts in their field when it comes to ease of application, finish and durability. You may be looking for a specific colour that only comes from a designer paint. Here I would ask if the same colour could be mixed for you, would it cover as well as the more expensive brand? Sometimes its worth the extra cost, but on other occasions it really isn’t! If you are living in the space whilst decoration is taking place you should consider if the paint you decide on is safe? There are a few eco paints out there and even the more mainstream brands now provide almost solvent free solutions.
