The autumn equinox is upon us, many say it’s time to let go of what has gone before us this year and embrace what’s yet to come. The sun is setting at 7pm rather than 9pm and all around us the season is showing its glorious warm fiery colours.
That’s not to say everything must change…..
Grey in still massively on trend however we see it now being matched with bolder contrasting colours. Jewel colours seem particularly popular this autumn. Pairing grey with ruby, emerald, teal, rust or royal blue and the adding in the warmer tones such as rose, mustard or bronze is adding new depth to the grey shades we’ve embraced for some time.
Textures are bringing rooms to life, wall coverings are becoming more versatile, coming in fibre, wood and plastics, this is where you can introduce bolder colours. Geometric patterns break up the block colours adding depth to a room. Pairing these decorative ideas with accents of metallic in your soft furnishings, light fittings and room accessories finish any room with a dramatic flair.
If however bold for you does not translate to the atmosphere you are trying to create in your space, simplicity of colour and furnishings still remain a trademark style. Avoiding high gloss finishes and leaning more towards natural or unfinished wood, and even bamboo can create a relaxed space. Soft muted shades are enough to change a room if you introduce taupe, stone, tan pale blue, or green, or even light grey with pale pinks. Accepting these colours with a contrast of black brings greater depth to a simpler palette. Textures are just as important to create a visual hit, however make these textures tone on tone rather than patterned, layering up to create warmth with understated style.
