The painters wife’s wish list

Escapism is my best distraction.

2020 hasn’t exactly been the new exciting decade we expected. We are living hour to hour at the moment, not sure what’s going to happen next. I find it easy to become overwhelmed in circumstances like this as David knows all too well. So he distracted me. He said that if we go into lockdown I have a Painter in my home, at my disposal. Believe me when I tell you I haven’t had that privilege in years! Remember the fable of the cobbler and his children’s shoes………..

Here it is!  As much as my wishes include world health and peace (and a lottery win) he’s only a miracle worker in his own trade so I’ve stuck to that.

Downstairs.

I adore my kitchen as it is, the retro messy diner feel emulates our personalities and I can’t see it changing, but clean crisp white walls to freshen up our lively accessories would be perfect.

The living room is much the same, I’m still in love with my Tiffany blue wall, but not the marks left by the couch, so a redo will be fabby!

We freshened up the office when I started working from home, so that room can wait till next time.

Going up!

The stairway …… No one really appreciates that your hall, when it includes stairs, is the hardest room to decorate. It always makes me laugh when people ask for a hall to be priced and are then shocked at the price- it’s hard for decorators to do too, especially if you want it papered. More time will be taken, and that’s always reflected in the price. David said he fancied a paper in the hall!! A paper in the hardest room!!! I mean I’m happy to challenge him so here’s what I found.

Terence Conran Asa Linen Wallpaper. £69.99 per roll

Lundby wallpaper, Citrine. £25.00 per roll

Fresco wallpaper, Gold. £40.00 per roll

Freshening up.

Our family bathroom definitely needs a redo. It’s the boys room really and has a blue wet wall in it (that I hate) but it’s practical so will stay for the time being. The room needs to be done in a water resistant durable paint. I’ve found they even come in Matt these days. I’m thinking white. We don’t need another colour when the wall is already so bright.

Pure brilliant white Soft sheen 2.5l £20.00

Our en-suite is completely tiled and I love it. It was a labour of love but I honestly feel like I’m in a boutique hotel when I’m in there. The durable paint is needed on the ceiling though.

Now to bed.

Our bedroom. The most important one! The grown up room, the room that’s seen two babies puke, poo, stay up all night, but we’ve come out the other side. The boys are old enough for us to completely reclaim our room, and it’s really exciting! I’m tempted to have the full room papered. The thing is everything I find is deemed too feminine……I already have quite floral bed linen so I’d rather stay plain (er) on the walls. I’m narrowing it down.

Milan Metallic Wallpaper, Grey Silver £20.00 per roll

Milan Metallic Wallpaper Navy Gold £20.00 per roll.

Design project by John Lewis No.151 wallpaper Mural pink/grey £90

Design project by John Lewis No.151 wallpaper Mural Teal Ombré £90.

My eldest has asked for a football team themed room, enough said.

The little one already had his done recently, but has picked some new colours for his walls, and I don’t mind them!

This is a time of uncertainty for all of us. Health is at the forefront, income is unfortunately part of our wellbeing. Our team is still working but are of course being extra vigilant. If we are told to go into lock down or are even told to stay home, our business is in jeopardy as are many other independent businesses.

If you like me need a distraction, make a plan. Think of what you’d like to do in your home, or places your like to visit. Family you want to spend time with when this is all over.

If your plans include decorating, we’ll be here, working as long as we can, and planning for the other side. We’d like your ideas to keep us working, and you happy.
