Unusual is often beautiful

We had the opportunity to take a break. We stayed in Scotland in a beautiful renovated church. We stayed away from people and had a much needed change of scenery.

Scottish History.

The building from the 1700’s offered quirks of wooden beams, metal poles, high ceilings  and even a graveyard for a garden. We worried the children wouldn’t enjoy staying here……However we found the decoration of this house is what made it! How the owner managed to marry local history with modern living was seamless. This is the perfect opportunity to show people how easy it can be done!

Rich colours.

Don’t be scared to make a statement. If you are planning on staying in your home for a long period, why not show your personaltiy! Making a statement feature can bring a theme together. In this house the wine, chocolate and blue feature walls created grandeur, whilst the windows and high ceilings made the house light and airy.

Wood surrounds.

Lots of wood can be oppressive. What made it less overwhelming here was that there were different colours, creating different depths. Stained banisters v black wooden frames on the walls, paired with black wall hangings made the room feel rich but contemporary.

Feature walls.

Along with lush velvet curtains there was a beautiful wall paper. Black with gold pattern and a touch of glitter through it added to the drama of the house.

Contemporary.

With up to date kitchen and bathrooms, the house pulled in the same direction using mood lighting. The kitchen had purple lighting creating a stained glass effect in the island, the bathrooms had colour changing bulbs in the shower and by the bath. The lighting alone kept the drama of the house whilst being set in contemporary rooms.

This house reminded me that some drama is welcome, features should be breathtaking and you should Always be comfortable in your surroundings!

We would love to have been part of the journey of this property, as we would love to be part of your decorative journey.
