I just paid our liability insurance premium, as we do every year. Thankful that we’ve never had to use it.
Accidents can happen.
Don’t get me wrong, we’ve had some near misses. Like recently when david was spraying an industrial unit and the ladder fell away from the roof he was on. I was worried about him- he was worried about causing any damage to the works already done, what a guy! 🫣
Are the professional tick boxes worth it?
Being answerable to a professional body, will in turn ensure you stay professional. Your reputation is everything and as professionals we don’t want it tarnished. So we pay the insurances, the fees. Do the courses to ensure our knowledge is current, and in doing so we place ourselves above the competition.

What would you rather?
Some decorators are happy to work day to day, as jobs come in. In our eyes they don’t seem to care about their longevity or professional reputation.
People are happy to complain about services given. In fact I’m sure the statistics are something like; 90% of people will voice a complaint but only 10% will give praise. I think that now, with social media it could be even worse!
Everyone is watching 👀
We know our competitors, by company size and geography. We make sure we are more skilled, more professional….but that generally means we may be more expensive. And we know why, we follow the rules. Recently on social media a direct competitor called us out on us being too professional – on a closed decorators group, and what did this teach us? That they aren’t our competitors. They aren’t professional, they don’t have their eye on the future. Happily giving information to show that they openly work outside of professional legal boundaries, and trying to make us look stupid because we don’t cut corners. The comment backfired on them.
They are taking advantage of the system, the professionals out there and ultimately their customers. They are often recommended on local Facebook groups. Will we say who they are?? No way, we’re far too professional! 😉
